Mimosas or Buck's Fizz - Genius Either Way

Orange juice and champagne. Who knew such a simple combination would result in such a versatile celebratory cocktail? I was sitting in my living room tonight thinking about Mimosas. I wondered who came up with this wonderful combo and when was it invented? The Interwebs to the rescue!

Wikipedia says that allegedly, the cocktail was invented at the Paris Ritz in 1925. In jolly old England they call it a Buck's Fizz, where it was allegedly named after London's Buck's Club in 1921 where it was supposedly first served. One more use of the word "Allegedly" and I'll have to start practicing law. Anywho. What does it matter who and when it was invented, really? All we really care about is that it was invented and that we're able to enjoy it at brunches and breakfasts, on the Victoria Clipper Ship on the way to the San Juan Islands, or at my favorite event - weddings!

Speaking of weddings...my 21-year-old daughter was married on May 11 of this year and after the ceremony, we all headed over to a great place in Capital Hill called Julia's for breakfast and, of course, Mimosas! YAY! Mimosas!!

I also wonder...are the French offended by the rest of us that dare to adulterate their beloved champagne by mixing it with orange juice? Probably not. They're probably just happy that we're buying their champagne so they can afford to make more.

So, wine friends, don't be afraid to drink Mimosas for any occasion, or no occasion. Just drink them. They're fun and delicious, AND you can get your daily dose of vitamin C in every glass.
